A stunning beach on the Greek island of Kefalonia has been named the second-best beach in the world for 2026, according to the latest rankings by The World’s 50 Best Beaches.

The annual list highlights the most breathtaking coastlines across the globe, with crystal-clear waters, pristine sands and dramatic natural backdrops defining the top destinations.

Greek beach shines on global stage

Fteri Beach secured second place worldwide, earning praise for its secluded setting, turquoise waters and unspoiled beauty.

Tucked inside a remote cove, the beach is only accessible via a steep hiking trail or by boat, helping preserve its untouched charm. Judges described it as one of the most magical locations in the Mediterranean, with a “breathtaking backdrop” that sets it apart from more crowded tourist hotspots.

The recognition further strengthens Greece’s reputation as one of the world’s top summer destinations, combining natural beauty with authentic travel experiences.

Philippines claims top spot

The number one position went to Entalula Beach, a secluded paradise surrounded by towering limestone cliffs.

Accessible only by boat, the beach impressed judges with its soft white sand and tranquil atmosphere. Its dramatic scenery and relatively untouched environment helped it stand out among hundreds of global contenders.

Australia also features in top three

Australia secured third place with Wharton Beach, known for its striking white sand and crystal-clear waters.

Located in the Duke of Orleans Bay area, the beach offers a peaceful escape with opportunities for surfing and dolphin spotting, particularly during the drier months.

Global list highlights hidden gems

The 2026 rankings feature destinations from every corner of the world, including Madagascar, Fiji, the Maldives, Mexico and Thailand. Many of the beaches remain relatively untouched due to limited access or environmental protections, adding to their appeal.

Other notable Greek entries on the extended list include Porto Katsiki and Porto Timoni, further showcasing the country’s diverse coastal beauty.

Judges emphasised that remoteness and natural preservation played a key role in this year’s rankings, with travellers increasingly seeking quieter, less-developed locations.
