New figures show that traditional favourites remain extremely popular, with Spain once again topping the list as the most visited country in Europe — and the world.

Türkiye — 154.8 million nights
France — 150.8 million nights
United Kingdom — 149.8 million nights
Greece — 130.9 million nights
Austria — 97.0 million nights
Croatia — 85.6 million nights
Germany — 83.6 million nights
Netherlands — 64.3 million nights
Despite growing concerns and protests over overtourism in popular cities and islands, visitor numbers across Europe remain very high. The tourism sector is expected to support hundreds of millions of jobs globally in 2026.
Countries such as Greece, Croatia, Spain, and Italy benefit significantly from their Mediterranean climate and iconic islands, while Austria attracts large numbers of winter sports enthusiasts. France draws visitors year-round, from the French Riviera in summer to the Alps in winter.
Despite frequent protests against overtourism in cities such as Barcelona, Venice, and Dubrovnik, visitor numbers remain extremely high, showing that demand for these destinations continues to grow.
The travel and tourism sector is forecast to support 376 million jobs globally in 2026, highlighting its vital importance to many European economies.
