Two wonderful places in the north of Greece that you must visit

Updated: Apr 23

Beautiful Halkidiki. Sarti and Nea Roda

We all know the famous Halkidiki. If any of us have not been there, at least we have heard about this place. This peninsula is located in the north of Greece and is known primarily for its diverse nature, the beautiful Aegean Sea and a number of places for vacation. The city of Thessaloniki is a kind of metropolitan center. The peninsula is also known for its "three fingers", the peninsular promontories of Kassandra, Sithonia and Mount Athos (a monastic Orthodox republic).

We will look at two very interesting places that are definitely worth a visit.

Sarti

The small seaside town of Sarti is located approximately in the middle of the central Sithonia peninsula. It offers a variety of accommodation options, clean sandy beaches and unforgettable scenery of the holy Mount Athos.

Every year, this place is visited by several thousand tourists from all over the world. Sarti is 132 km from Thessaloniki airport and the journey by car will take you less than 2 hours.

Nea Roda

Nea Roda is a small village in the northern part of the Holy Mount Athos (once upon a time, this village was part of the Holy Mount). It is one of the last towns before the border of Mount Athos. At the end of the village (where you can also reach on foot) you have the opportunity to come across the borders of Mount Athos and from the village you can also see the eastern (uninhabited) tip of Athos.

Nea Roda

What makes this village special? It is a small and relatively unknown tourist destination where you can find absolute peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of larger resorts. There are two Orthodox churches in the village, one of them on a rocky cliff, which adds to the iconic atmosphere. There are several accommodation options, from three-star to luxury hotels along the entire length of the coast or within easy reach. A very well-known hotel with a long tradition is the Leandros hotel, located near the beach (a few minutes walk), with a nice view of the surroundings.

A very beautiful place is also the beach bar (Voulitsa Beach), which is located near the village, towards the borders of St. Mount Athos and is situated between rocky cliffs with a clear sea. This place can be reached on foot, but especially by car, it is a few minutes of careful driving beyond the village.

If you are looking for truly peaceful places to enjoy Greece, these two locations are definitely worth it.
