Heringsdorf is a popular seaside resort on the island of Usedom in West Pomerania, Germany. It is also known as Kaiserbad. It is located on the Baltic Sea coast of the island of Usedom, about 10 km as the crow flies northwest of Świnoujście.

Heringsdorf was formed in January 2005 from the former municipalities of Heringsdorf, Ahlbeck and Bansin. Until January 2006, the municipality was called Dreikaiserbäder, which literally means Three Emperors' Baths, referring to several holiday visits by German Emperor Wilhelm II up to 1918.
For the same reason, the fine sandy beach stretching for about 12 km from Bansin via Heringsdorf to Ahlbeck is also called Kaiserstrand. The continuous Baltic Sea beach on the island of Usedom has a total length of exactly 40 km and an average width of 40 m.
Heringsdorf has been one of the most popular resorts on the German Baltic coast since its foundation. It consists of three parts: Ahlbeck on the Polish border, Heringsdorf itself (the central part) and Bansin in the west. These three Kaiserbäder were the favorite spas of the German emperors and were also called the Berlin bath.
They are characterized by clean beaches and numerous picturesque houses and mansions in the distinctive spa architecture style.
During our visit to the Polish seaside town of Swinoujscie, which we wrote about in the previous post, we also visited this beautiful town.
Today, both cities are connected by a wonderful bike path that leads right next to the beach and offers wonderful scenery not only of the pine forest but also of the sea. It is an absolutely peaceful journey from Heringsdorf in SW or the other way around in less than an hour.
If we compare some prices, such as tourist souvenirs, fashion and other things, to our surprise, these things are much cheaper in Heringsdorf than in the neighboring town of Swinoujscie.
This city is definitely worth a few days' visit.
