Acropolis Museum Celebrates International Museum Day 2026 with Free Entry and Events
The Acropolis Museum will take part in the celebration of International Museum Day under the theme “Museums connect the world,” offering a series of special activities for visitors on May 17 and 18, 2026.

Sunday, May 17: Behind-the-scenes stories of a world-class museum
On Sunday, the museum will be open from 09:00 to 20:00 with standard admission. Visitors will have the opportunity to attend a special presentation titled:
“Acropolis Museum: Hidden stories from the journey of an international museum.”
The programme, organised by the Educational Programmes Department in collaboration with the Conservation Department, will highlight key moments in the museum’s history. These include:
The construction of the modern building
The concept behind its exhibition design
The transfer of artefacts from the old museum
Conservation work and exhibition setup
The people behind the collections
The experience includes a guided tour through the exhibition spaces with an archaeologist and conservator, as well as a digital presentation at the educational centre.

Monday, May 18: Free entry and piano recital
On Monday, May 18, the museum will be open from 09:00 to 17:00 with free admission to all exhibition areas.
For the first time, the museum will also participate in the international Piano City Athens festival, hosting a live piano recital by acclaimed pianist Manos Kitsikopoulos.
The performance will take place on the second-floor balcony overlooking the Archaic Gallery, offering a unique musical experience within the museum setting.
Kitsikopoulos, an award-winning and versatile pianist, has received distinctions from the Athens Academy and international competitions. He collaborates with orchestras such as the Janáček Philharmonic and the Athens State Orchestra and teaches at the Athens Conservatoire.
The recital programme will feature a selection of well-known works, including:
Tango pieces by Astor Piazzolla
Nocturnes by Frédéric Chopin
Miniatures by Erik Satie
Additional works and arrangements by the artist
