Updated: May 10
If you are planning a holiday in the Czech Republic or Slovakia and are thinking about where to go for a short trip, maybe an extended weekend alone or with children, we recommend that you visit a beautiful place in western Slovakia, which is located near the Czech-Slovak border and is known to almost every resident of the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

This is one of the most famous spa towns in Slovakia - Trenčianske Teplice. An exceptional place in itself, rich in history, culture, beautiful nature and relaxation in every season, especially in spring and summer.
Trenčianske Teplice is a small spa town, not far from Trenčín (15 km), with almost 4,000 thousand inhabitants (3,925 - according to data from 2025). It is 19 km from the nearest border crossing between the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the direction of Wallachia and to the border crossing in the direction of Horní Srnie. The nearest international airports are less than 140 km from Bratislava in Slovakia and 150 km from Brno in the Czech Republic (an alternative is the airport in Ostrava in the Czech Republic, which is 175 km away).
From the history that influenced this spa town
The history of this place is extremely rich and dates back to the beginning of our era, that is, to the period of the Roman Empire. However, the first written mention of the springs dates back to 1247.

From the 13th to the 19th century, the territory of Trenčín Teplice with thermal springs belonged to the owners of Trenčín Castle. The greatest merit in the development of the baths belonged to the Illesházy family, to whom it belonged for 241 years (1594–1835). Back then, the spa was one of the most important in Austria-Hungary.
In 1835, Viennese financier Georg Sina bought the spa, rebuilt and modernized it. His son Šimon had a hotel built and expanded the spa park, his daughter Ifigenia left the most precious historical monument to the Sina spring in 1888, which is still preserved today - the Hamman Turkish bath in the oriental Moorish style.
At the end of the 19th century, comprehensive spa care begins in the town. In 1909, the spa was sold to a Hungarian joint-stock company, but immediately after the First World War, the Czechoslovak joint-stock company became the owner. She later engaged the leading Czech architects, the founders of modernism, Jaromír Krejcar and Bohuslav Fuchs. According to Krejcar's design, his best work - the Machnáč sanatorium - was built. Fuchs left even more significant traces: the Green Frog swimming pool and developed several urban designs for the entire valley and participated in the reconstruction of the central buildings.
Nature, atmosphere and relaxation
One of the most famous and also one of the iconic buildings by the aforementioned Bohuslav Fuchs, which enjoys a high number of visitors every year, is the Green Frog swimming pool, which is located on the edge of the spa town on a forest slope. The swimming pool has a long history and, with minor breaks including reconstructions and repairs, is still in operation today. It is a relatively large area, where both couples and families with children will find their place and offers many options.

Part of the relaxation area is a nearby park that starts at the end of the pedestrian zone and ends at the former Baračka Hotel. At the end of the park you will come across Lake Baračka.

The whole city literally breathes a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere, both of a spa town and of a pleasant holiday destination, where there are a reasonable number of people compared to other locations.
Accommodation
Accommodation options and capacities are extremely rich in Trenčianske Teplice. Some hotel complexes are intended only for spa guests. The most famous hotels in the city include, for example, Hotel Krym, which is also an icon of this spa town, Hotel Most Slávy, which has hosted many celebrities from the film world in the past, Hotel Pax, Hotel Vila Anna and many others.

An interesting accommodation option for nature lovers is the nearby Treehouse, which offers 5 smaller glamping-style houses in the forest, set in the treetops.

Culture - Film Festivals
The city of Trenčianske Teplice is also known for its film festivals, which in the past were held annually in this spa town, in the representative premises of the iconic Kursalón. Although it is currently undergoing reconstruction, after its reopening, the developer promises an exceptionally pleasant and attractive environment not only for accommodation but also for events of various kinds.

If you spend more days in Trenčianske Teplice, you also have a wide range of options for visiting the surrounding area. You can visit the city of Trenčín itself and the Trenčianske Teplice Castle, or for example one of the most beautiful Slovak castles - Bojnice Castle, 60 km from Trenčianske Teplice, where the journey will take you no more than an hour by car.
